About the Role:
We are seeking a strategic and systems-oriented Lead Designer, Experience Framework to define and evolve the core design architecture that powers our software-defined vehicle experiences. In this pivotal role, you will architect the visual, behavioral, and interaction patterns that unify how users engage with 42dot's IVI and vehicle OS environments.
This role demands a deep understanding of scalable design systems, multimodal interfaces, and cross-platform consistency. You will partner with product, engineering, and UX teams to drive coherence across all touchpoints—helping us deliver seamless, intuitive, and safe mobility experiences.
Responsibilities:
Define and own the overall design framework that underpins 42dot’s IVI and OS experience ecosystem.
Create scalable systems of visual, interaction, and motion design standards to ensure consistency and coherence across applications.
Collaborate closely with design, product, and engineering teams to implement and refine the experience framework at scale.
Lead the development of a cross-platform design language that adapts to varied display types, modalities, and user contexts in the vehicle.
Develop and maintain design documentation, guidelines, and tooling that accelerates high-quality design implementation.
Mentor designers and contribute to a strong culture of craft, collaboration, and innovation.
Ensure the framework supports safety, accessibility, and performance across diverse user journeys and vehicle states.
Requirements:
7+ years of experience in product or systems design, with a strong focus on design systems or platform-level architecture.
Proven experience developing and leading multi-surface design frameworks across embedded or complex digital environments.
Strong portfolio showcasing system thinking, scalability, and innovative interaction patterns.
Mastery of Figma. Experience prototyping in environments such as ProtoPie is a plus.
Experience collaborating deeply with engineers to implement frameworks and components.
Working knowledge of HMI, IVI, or automotive UX environments strongly preferred.
Expertise in visual hierarchy, interaction design, accessibility, and motion design.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Design, HCI, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience.
Strong communicator and thought leader who thrives in cross-functional environments and is excited to shape the future of mobility.
Base Salary:
$102,000 - $284,000
