About the Role:
The Director of Vehicle Experience leads a team of HMI Architects and UX/UI Designers to create intuitive, innovative, and cohesive interaction strategies and designs that significantly impact user satisfaction, brand perception, and competitive advantage. This strategic role shapes the future of automotive interactions for Hyundai Motor Group vehicles, spanning vehicle access, lighting, cabin controls, charging, and specialized vehicle modes. The position requires visionary thinking to anticipate market trends in electrification, autonomous driving, and connected ecosystems.
Responsibilities:
Lead and mentor a specialized design team, providing strategic and creative direction for HMI architecture and UX/UI design.
Oversee the creation of comprehensive deliverables, including user journeys, user stories, UX/UI designs (Figma), logic diagrams, state tables, and interactive prototypes.
Collaborate closely with peer design teams, including System Experience, IVI Applications, AI Experience, and Experience Framework.
Partner directly with software engineering and electrical hardware engineering teams to ensure seamless integration and implementation of designs.
Drive consistency, usability, and innovation in vehicle interaction design across multiple brands and product lines.
Promote and foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and diversity within the design team and across collaborative partnerships.
Foster a collaborative environment focused on agility, innovation, and user-centric design principles.
Qualifications:
Has been responsible for the vehicle experience design on a production vehicle.
10+ years of experience in automotive UX/UI and HMI design.
Proven leadership experience managing and developing design teams.
Extensive experience with UX/UI design tools (Figma preferred), and interactive prototyping.
Deep knowledge of automotive product development cycles and experience collaborating with hardware and software engineering teams.
Strong technical understanding of software-defined vehicle architectures, embedded systems, and automotive-grade hardware constraints.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, capable of working effectively with cross-functional and international teams.
Ability to articulate design strategy clearly to stakeholders at all levels, internally and externally.
Proven ability to drive organizational alignment around user-centric design strategies at senior leadership levels.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with global automotive brands.
Background in defining vehicle user experience standards across multiple vehicle platforms.
Experience driving significant innovation initiatives, especially related to electric or autonomous vehicle user experiences.
Experience with agile development methodologies and rapid prototyping processes.
Proven commitment to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative team environment.
Base Salary
$140,000-$278,000
